PHD in Management

 PhD System in Management Science

 
Article 1: The Higher Institute of Business Administration grants a PhD in Management Sciences in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation.
 
Article 2: The duration of the study to obtain a Ph.D. degree lasts for three years at most, but not less than two years from the date of the approval of the Institute Board for registration in the Ph.D. degree. The Institute's Board may, upon a justified suggestion by the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs, extend the period of preparing the thesis for an additional year at most. 
Article 3: The candidate for the preparation of a doctorate degree in Management Science must: 
(A) holder of a master's degree with at least a good degree in management sciences from the Higher Institute of Business Administration, a master's degree from a university or higher institutes in the Syrian Arab Republic in the field of specialties of the HIBA in which the candidate wants to prepare a doctorate or a scientific degree considered equivalent by the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs in the Institute. 
(B) To pass the English language test according to the rules set by the Institute Board.
(C) To submit an authenticated file that includes his scientific work and the scientific researches that he has carried out. The Council of Scientific and Student Affairs studys the applicants’ files and suggests to the Institute Council to accept the candidates after studying their files.
(D) To submit a research plan attached with the approval of one of the faculty members of the institute (as an assistant professor at least) indicating the subject of the thesis, the problem to be addressed, the methodology to be followed and the most important references to be relied upon. 
(E) To pay the scholastic fees in accordance with the regulations of the Institute in case of admission.
Article 4: To get the doctorate degree, the student is required to:
a- Prepare an innovative research on a subject approved by the Institute Council based on the proposal of the Department Council and the approval of the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs. 
b- To publish two papers within the framework of the topic of his thesis in one of the refereed scientific journals approved by the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs or obtain the approval of the journal to publish them. 
c- Present his research results in a thesis to be approved by the jury after an open discussion.
Article 5: The thesis submitted by the student to obtain doctoral degree shall be prepared in Arabic and attach by a comprehensive summary in a foreign language. The student may prepare the thesis in the foreign language, after the approval of the Board of the Institute, an adequate summary in Arabic should be attached to it. 
Article 6:
A. The supervisor of the thesis and the co-supervisor, if any, shall submit, after the completion of the preparation of the thesis, a detailed report on the thesis to the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs showing the validity of the thesis for presentation to the jury.
B. The thesis shall be sent to two jurys (from outside the Institute) to study and evaluate the thesis, and prepare each of them a report on the validity of the thesis for discussion be submitted to the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs.
Article 7: On the proposal of the Council of Scientific and Student Affairs, the Institute Board shall form a committee to discuss the thesis consisting of five members of the faculty, at least one of them is from outside the Institute, and the committee also includes the supervisor or co-supervisor and jurys.
Article 8:
A. The jury evaluates the doctoral thesis submitted to it and the thesis is considered acceptable if the committee gives it a final grade of not less than an acceptable degree (at least 60%).
B. The jury Committee shall prepare, after examining and discussing the thesis, a detailed report containing the student's result, which is prescribed unanimously of the Committee or by a majority of its members, and shall submit it to the Institute Board for approval.
Article 9: The Institute Board may, upon the proposal of the Jury Committee, gives the student whose eligibility has not been decided for a Ph.D. degree the opportunity to re-submit his/her thesis once after completing of its shortcomings within a period of not less than six months and not more than one year.
Article 10: The Board of the Institute adopts the success and granting of the Ph.D.
Article 11: A student is granted a certificate signed by the Dean of the Institute and the Minister of Higher Education.
Article 12: The regulations in the Institute shall apply to all matters not provided in this system.
